Do you think we “worship celebrities today, not heroes?” And if we do, what effect does that have on what we value and whom we present to children as role models?

I think that we do have celebrities as role models, and that is not right at all. Celebrities are common people who have an acting, singing or other carrer that makes them become famous, but they dont do anything in order to help people. They are not selfless at all and they do everything that they want and we all get to live vicariously through them, which probably is the reason why we like them, because we want to be like them.

Heroes are another thing completely, they are not necessarily famous and they can be just common people who when someone needs them they are there. I know that i may be exaggerating, but a hero to me is just someone that is willing to help other people have a better life or just help them with any problem that they have even if it is dangerous.

Children today are affected by the media and they have started to make celebrities their role models, when in fact they are just famous people who may have more problems that us. I am not saying that all celebrities are bad role models, there are some celebrities that help the world and that are activists in causes but that does not make them heroes.

I think that everybody should evaluate who they admire and why, because you should not admire someone only because of their glamourous life and looks. You and everybody for that matter should admire the real people the ones who really count. Firefighters, nurses, policemen, doctors are just a few of the people who dedicate their lives toward the safety and well beings of othes, and they are the ones that are worth being called “Role Models”.
